Wheat straw

The UK has a long tradition of thatching with long-stemmed varieties of straw. This falls into two categories: ‘long straw’ and ‘combed wheat reed’. The production methods are different for each and rely on different thatching methods in their application.

The Wakley family has been growing combed wheat reed on the Blackdown Hills since the 1970’s. We also work closely with other farmers to provide consistently high quality straw for thatchers.
